We invite contributions to the Cognitive Computing Alternative Research Track

The integration of the WWW with Cognitive Computing and Immersive Virtual Reality technologies is defining new ways of Human Computer Interaction moving the Web towards a new fertile context for evolving. The new era of WWW is likely to be immersive and cognitive.

The focus of the special track is on the integration of the following research areas:

  • Cognitive Computing and Artificial Intelligence
  • Web Analytics as applied to Smart Data
  • Immersive Virtual Reality

The intersection of these research areas is for us a unique value proposition mix for the next generation WWW and the new user-centric model for its evolution. Our main interest in this track is on innovative ideas for the integration of sound technical approaches for visioning scenarios for the future of WWW. The current momentum of WWW requires sound propositions for alternative models of content dissemination, advanced analytics and decision making all challenging the current human computer interaction approaches. Additionally the emphasis on the integration of WWW with Cognitive Computing should be seen as a unique value proposition for a new era of smart web-based systems.

We seek the following kinds of submissions:

  • Full scientific papers: up to 8 pages in ACM format
  • Short scientific and position papers: up to 5 pages in ACM format

Submissions must be formatted using the ACM SIG template (as per the WWW2017 Research Track) available at:

The review process will be single-blind, and author names and affiliations should be listed. Each paper will be reviewed by at least two Program Committee members. The acceptance decisions will take into account paper novelty, technical depth, elegance, practical or theoretic impact, and presentation.

Publication Process

All accepted papers will be included in the WWW2017 Companion Volume of Proceedings and made available through the ACM Digital Library and the conference website. See this Companion from WWW2016 at:

Authors of accepted papers will retain intellectual property rights to their work, but will be required to sign a copyright release form to IW3C2. After publication in WWW 2017, extended versions of papers can be submitted to refereed journals in accordance to the policies of those journals. In the Cognitive Computing track, authors of accepted papers may be approached to expand their papers for a Special Issue of the International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems entitled: Special issue from WWW2017 Cognitive Computing Track: LEARNING IN THE ERA OF COGNITIVE COMPUTING AND SOCIAL MACHINES

Accepted refereed papers must be presented at the conference by an author who is registered to attend. Innovative presentations formats will be encouraged and supported. We require at least one author of each accepted submission to register by the early-bird deadline (specifically, one registered author may present multiple papers/posters/demos at the conference). Authors will be required to agree to this requirement at the time of submission.
